My Experience with Multiplicity

27th May, 2026

I've given up the "plural" label for myself. It's been around a year and a few months since I discovered, or rediscovered, that there were more beings around then just myself. This wasn't the typical realization of plurality that many in the community have become familar with. My experience is that of external forces, entity possession, and alterhumanization. Singlet, Possesion, Opening an Otherworld Gateway, Body Guests, Fluctuating Multiplicity. Five statements that summarizes how I experienced going from singlet to complicatedly plural but still singlet. I'm someone who considers oneself to be more singlet than plural. I've come to refer to myself as plurallet, syslet, or pluralflux to try and convey this understanding that I'm not "traditionally" plural, between singlet and plural, or not plural all the time. Even when "headmates", a word I'm still not sure is completely accurate, are around the experience of them is largely external compared to the internal experience a lot of other plural folk describe. I would say my relationship with plurality is more like how some soulbonders view themselves. I in fact use to be a soulbonder a year or two ago and that emphasis on external "entities" who can be invited into one's "home" but can also "call in from a distance is certainly how I view things to some degree. How my "headmates" influence me is reminiscent of common "symptoms" of plurality like amnesia, induced dissociation, etc. but doesn't always come from within the mind. Think of it like how you can get sick from bacteria, it goes into your body but you wouldn't necessarily call that bacteria a product or part of the body. My "headmates" are not a part of my mind or a product of it but rather guests who use it to communicate with me or travel around to other places (a more complicated concept I'll spare you from). This doesn't mean that my "headmates" haven't or don't "front" but It's more possession-like, being taken over by something outside of yourself (again the bacteria analogy) but also can easily leave and become external once more. This experience for me is like being used as a puppet, being spoken through rather than someone taking the wheel and driving. Similar to co-consciousness for simplicity. They do not have a distinct voice or movement from my own when they do this but they have control over what I do or say as they are more conscious than me at the time. I've been doing some minor research into mediumship, channeling, and psychopomps. And although I still hesiatate to call myself to be a part of any of these despite having several run ins with dead beings who use me to pass on I do find it releaving that there are other experiences of multiplicity that aren't in the common framework of systemhood and are similar to my own.
